How to renovate ski apartment in France on the cheap
Jul 2nd, 2010 by skiaccommodation
Having renovated my own ski apartment in Tignes, I have learned a few lessons. There are probably many articles on the Internet, giving advice and help with holiday home renovation and redecorations. Here my essential tips:
Do the job properly or don’t do it at all – cheap renovation or amateur decoration won’t last long, won’t look good, will lose you rental income and will cost you more in the long term.
Tackle each room as a separate project. That way you don’t have a complete building site when the letting season start as this potentially could lose you vital rental income and effectively increases your renovation cost. Start with essentials such as kitchen / bathroom. Bedrooms and living room might be able to get away with a touch up.
Buy your building and decoration material in the UK. Paint is a lot more expensive in France and so are other materials. You can check prices online, calculate your saving by using correct Euro exchange rate.
Finally be resourceful, shop around, find the best deals on furnitures and fittings, use second hand furnitures. There are often post season clear-outs in ski resorts where you can find stuff. If required try temporary solutions – for example blinds in a box are temporary cheap window blinds. The cost little, look good and will last you a season or two.
Anyway there are lots more you could do to save money when renovating or redecorating your ski accommodation in France. Hope my tips help a little.
