Does anyone have experience of buying a new property abroad?

Hi,
I'm looking to buy a new apartment (probably 2 bedrooms) off plan abroad, purely as an investment.
I'm thinking of somewhere sunny like spain, or something in the mountains near a skiing resort which I can rent out year round for an income. I don't plan on using it much. I'm looking for something near to an airport so it's quite easy to get to.
Can anyone recommend a good location to buy in, based preferably on your own experiences, or a good property developer / company who can help me with my property search.
I'm obviously also interested in the legal side of things so a good reputable company who know the ins and outs of overseas property law.
Thanks
I am a UK citizen by the way.

I live in Canada but am in process of purchasing a new house in Czech republic, nearby Austria.
The property out there is quite cheap and of high quality and its located in the middle of the Europe.
If you not a EU citizen, you cannot buy anything directly as a private owner, you could however establish a company and be able to purchase property like that which is what i am doing.
You can use a middle company to help you with documents and legal stuff to open a company , but make sure that you and your name is on the company.
If you don't have a lot of time on your hands , it might be a nerve wracking task.
By the way, houses in Spain are particular expensive and cost higher then in US in e.g. california
